He is also a victims' rights advocate in New Orleans and frequently prepares vegetarian dishes although he says he is not a vegetarian. Bass prepped at Capitol High School in Baton Rouge where he was one of the most sought-after recruits in the country his senior year.

On July 26, 2007, Bass agreed to sign with the Dallas Mavericks, but terms of the deal were not disclosed.. He is signed through the 2008-09 season with a $1.59 million contract.
On July 10, 2009, Bass signed a contract with the Orlando Magic. The deal is believed to be worth $18 million for four years.
His younger brother, Chris Bass is currently playing basketball in college for the LSU Tigers basketball team.
